This year’s Run! Geek! Run! was all about setting records – and, in this case, we’re not talking about speed ones.

Our high-tech PR agency team at W2 Communications is proud to announce that we’ve given our biggest check ever to the Equal Footing Foundation: $20,000, all raised by our Run! Geek! Run! event in September. The weather was perfect. The crowd was enthusiastic in its support. And we had a total of 703 runners registered for the race – another all-time high. Now in its fifth year, Run! Geek! Run! has raised more than $70,000 total.

We can’t do it without our race sponsors – AH&T Insurance, Beyond 20, CEA, DC Capital Striders Running Group, Deltek, Evans & Chambers Technology, Gibson Dunn, Houlihan Lokey, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Ironistic, LMI, Lockheed Martin, Near Infinity, NVTC, Transformation Systems, Inc., Virginia Tech, National Capital Region and Young Design. To all of them, we thank you for your continued support.

We’re already planning for next year’s event, which will be held on Oct. 5, at West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. Watch for updates on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Of course, all of this goes toward a great cause: The Equal Footing Foundation is the charitable arm of the Northern Virginia Technology Council. It seeks to empower local students – many of whom have no technology access at home – through tech education and development programs, while teaching them to serve as leaders within their communities and beyond. The foundation’s Computer Clubhouses provide an innovative and safe after-school learning program for these students, who work with adult mentors to explore and develop their potential. In addition to going to the clubhouses, the students take part in robotics tournaments and space camps.

If you can’t wait until next year’s Run! Geek! Run! to help, then please do connect with Equal Footing now. They’re always in need of volunteers who can help with programs – especially tech mentors. Otherwise, see you at next year’s race!
