Race Proceeds Support the Equal Footing Foundation; Charity Serves Area’s Underserved Youth to Achieve their Full Potential through Youth Development and Educational Initiatives

Fairfax, VA – July 12, 2010 – Welz & Weisel Communications, a strategic communications firm focused on creating awareness and credibility campaigns for information technology companies, today announced that registration is open for the 3rd annual Run! Geek! Run! 8K set to take place on September 18, 2010 in Washington, D.C. Participants can register individually or as part of the team challenge to help raise money for the Equal Footing Foundation, a Virginia-based 501(C)(3) nonprofit focused on youth development and education that is the charitable arm of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC).

Teams must be comprised of between four and ten runners and can include friends, co-workers, running clubs or partners. The times of the fastest four participants, at least one male and one female, will be used to determine the team’s time. The top three teams will receive trophies. To register, team members should visit http://www.rungeekrun.net/register/ and complete the form individually, noting the team name. All entries with the same team name will be added to that group.

In the 2009 race, the Quantico Orienteering Club finished first in the team competition with an average time of 33:00. The Near Infinity and Leros teams finished in second and third place, respectively.

The Run! Geek! Run! 8K is held in West Potomac Park, home to famous landmarks such as the FDR Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool. Runners will race on the flat, fast, out-and-back course to continue to support and add to the already $50,000 in cash and technology donated to the Equal Footing Foundation since the race’s inception two years ago.

About the Equal Footing Foundation
The Equal Footing Foundation (EFF) is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit charity that provides underserved youth in Northern Virginia opportunities to achieve their full potential through youth development and educational initiatives. The core program focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) centered activities delivered through an after-school initiative called the Computer Clubhouse. Built in cooperation with local community centers, EFF’s six Computer Clubhouses serve 1,500 students a week. The Computer Clubhouses are part of an international initiative designed to encourage an environment of creativity and learning where students can become fluent with new technologies and develop skills and experiences that will help them succeed in today’s workforce. By providing access to resources, mentors, technology and educational programs, EFF is able to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of students in our community.
