Principal and Co-Founder

As Principal and Founder of Welz & Weisel Communications, Tony Welz is responsible for client service, positioning and driving results-driven programs. Tony has ten years of corporate communications, public relations and marketing communications experience. Having worked in both corporate and agency environments, Tony has consulted start-up to Fortune 500 companies. During his tenure in corporate communications, Tony has directed positive public relations campaigns, managed crisis communications activities surrounding shareholder, market and industry issues, and has had extensive experience launching new companies and gaining increased market recognition through branding and media relations initiatives.


Previously, Tony was Director of Corporate Communications at CoreExpress, Inc., a telecommunications company that delivered high performance extranet service for companies conducting mission-critical business over the Internet. While at CoreExpress, Tony managed corporate and product communications, including corporate branding, industry influencing, issues response, customer/partner campaigns and employee communications. Under his direction, CoreExpress won several industry awards, including the “Best in Show” award from Networld + Interop, “Top Company to Watch” award from Network World Magazine, and “Hot 9 Start-Ups” award from America’s Network Magazine.


Prior to CoreExpress, Tony was Senior Public Relations Manager at Network Associates, the world’s leading Internet security, antivirus and management companies. Tony was responsible for identity and product positioning programs. During his tenure at Network Associates, he launched a spin-off company, defining a new market segment, managed an aggressive media outreach program, oversaw product public relations for various divisions within the company and supervised an awards program that generated 10-15 product and company awards per year. In addition, he coordinated integrated marketing activities directed at increasing sales and building customer loyalty.


Before managing corporate communications, Tony spent five years working in public relations agencies. As an Account Supervisor at The Weber Group, Tony provided large corporate clients, including IBM, with strategic and tactical public relations counsel on positioning, messaging, industry positioning and competitive issues. Tony began his career as a media relations manager with The Stephenson Group where he worked with the media to increase name recognition of several financial services companies.


Recognized as one of the top 50 internal public relations professionals by PR Week in 2000, Tony received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Public Relations from Rowan University.
